Twitpic, a social media site that encourages users to upload pictures, has been criticised for terms and conditions that allow it to distribute user content without paying royalties. When questioned about the fairness of such terms Twitpic claimed that other user-generated content websites had similar provisions that also claim an assignment of content for no payment. This reveals a legal problem that affects every social media user: who is allowed to use your social media content and for what purposes?
