Guess Who Wins In Copyright Battle?
By Eva Dumbrell
For years, Gucci has been accusing Guess Inc. of trademark violations, claiming that the downtown L.A. retailer and fashion brand sold products, including wallets and shoes, which imitated Gucci designs. At the very heart of this dispute was Gucci’s signature repeating interlocking G design with a red and green stripe.
After a 6-year battle with Guess, Gucci has lost its trademark infringement case against the American fashion label. A court in Paris ruled in early 2015 that there was no trademark violation, no counterfeiting and no unfair competition. Though Gucci had promised it would "certainly and immediately bring an appeal against the decision", it yet has remained to be seen.
